Testicular cancer can be a very frightening disease. Any indication that something is wrong with the “member” or one of the “boys,” can send even the toughest men running to go cry in a corner. However, testicular cancer can be successfully treated if caught early enough. One way to ensure that you get a jump on anything that may develop down there, is to commit to getting regular screenings for testicular cancer. Self exams are vitally important and should be performed to increase the chances of catching cancer early.
Self exams are best to do right after a warm bath. The scrotum is most relaxed at this point. It is also easier to spot any abnormalities. Now the exam is fairly easy. Stand in front of a mirror naked. Check your scrotum with both hands for anything that doesn’t feel normal. Look for swelling, but don’t be alarmed if you find it, this could be perfectly normal. Be sure to look at the skin and look for anything that seems out of place or which wasn’t there before. Place the testicles between your fingers and roll the them in your hands.
Lumps that are cancerous are typically found on the side of the testicles or on the sides. Being comfortable and performing regular exams on your testicles, increases the likelihood that you will be able to spot any irregularities. If you come across a lump or any discoloration, it is important to visit your doctor as soon s possible.
Testicular cancer is treatable. If caught soon enough, it can be beaten. However, in some cases, amputation of one of the testicles will be required. Like any other cancer that is not caught soon enough, testicular cancer can also lead to death. This is why it is so important to perform regular exams and visit your doctor if you find anything that is abnormal.
